Fade Out Morganville Vampires Rachel Caine 9780749007492 Books

The first six books in the Morganville Vampire series were so exiting that I suppose they were a hard act to follow. I felt Fade Out was a little deflated in comparison with the rest of the series.

It was not until half way through the book that the nature of the threat is known, namely (spoiler alert) Kim and her video project. Of course, this may also be seen as a secondary plot with Ada and her problems as the primary threat. Ada's story was significantly more fleshed out than Kim's. I wish Ada could have been explored more deeply as there was much horror potential in her character that wasn't really developed to its fullest extent. Another problem was that one of the main characters, Amelie, was depressed for most of the book which, in any novel, tends to deaden the thrill somewhat. We got to meet Amelie's sister but then we never heard from her again. I suppose she'll pop up in the next novel. I did love the implied threat to Claire at the end of the novel now that Ada is no longer in the computer. That will be interesting to see worked out somewhere in a future Morganville episode.

Even though I found the novel to be less gripping than the rest of the series, I think Rachel Caine's style and writer's voice gets stronger with each work. Fade Out is well written and certainly an enjoyable read.

Let's face it, if you read the first six Morganville novels you're certainly going to want to read this one!

Fade Out Morganville Vampires Rachel Caine 9780749007492 Books Reviews

I say this time and time again with my reviews for this series, but I love seeing the progression of Claire's character as she's gone from the girl who's picked on and lonely to one that will stand up against her mad scientist boss when he's in uber-scary vampire mode. Smart girls rock! And Claire has a lot of brains packed in that head of hers.

What does this installment give us? Well, you'd think that with Bishop gone things would settle down. Alas, no. Claire and crew are thrown right into the thick of craziness once again. We also get to see Claire throw down some crazy-eyes when Eve latches onto a new friend and Claire's feeling ignored. It's the classic "Do I hate the new girl because she's usurping my place or is she genuinely up to no good?" question. I'm going to be honest, I think Claire could take the her in a fight. Well, provided she had enough time to visit Myrnin's lab of horrors and concoct something deadly.

Yep, that's our Claire. All brainy and stuff!

On top of the new and improved Cat Fight Claire, we also get a computer plotting diabolically, Myrnin at his streamlined and rather frightening best, power plays, and Rock Star Michael. Just because the big bad guy has been defeated doesn't mean it's time to let your defenses down, team! Things are continuing to happen.

Reread WIN!

good reading
After reading the first six novels in this series, I was truly thrilled to receive the seventh book. I was not disappointed with this easily entertaining and invigorating read.

With Morganville no longer amongst Bishop and his cohorts, cure for the vampire Alzheimer's in effect, and war in MV officially over leaving it idiosyncratically normal, which, Claire knows will not persist, but will enjoy it while it lasts. At the inception of Fade Out, we find that Eve has just been cast as the lead to the town play. Given the chance to meet knew people, Claire finds herself to be bit jealous of a new friend ,Kim, in Eve's life that seems to have Eve overjoyed and Claire feeling left behind. Come to find that Kim also dated Shane, Claire realizes that Kim is not on her priority list for friendly chit chat.

Claire must not only deal with the fact that Kim seems to be weaseling her way into the Glass house anytime the opportunity arises, she also must deal with Ada, a living, but deranged computer and heart of MV, determined to rid her affiliation with Myrnin due to her crazed obsession with him and the belief that Claire is only there to steal him away from her. As if poor Claire could handle no more, it seems the leniency within MV has outcasts of human gangs to vampire sewer rats seeking escape to freedom, and all eyes are on Amelie, Queen Bee of MV. Unfortunately, Amelie is in mourning due to the death of Sam, leading to be looked as weak and defenseless to mutinous schemes.

The Morganville series has always been reliable to give me that feeling of weightlessness from the emotional roller coaster it can send you so easily into. Although, it is geared towards teens, I feel that I get to experience something fun, lighthearted, suspenseful, and romantic without being talked down to. The characters have grown on me as well as the premise of each novel. Love the series. Anxiously awaiting the next bloody tale!
