Mixed Vegetables Vol 1 Ayumi Komura Books

I previewed "Mixed Vegetables" in "Shojo Beat" magazine a few months ago. It looked like it had interesting characters, romance, and story, and I liked the humor and art, so I bought it when it came out.

The story is about a girl named Hanayu whose family owns a pastry shop. Hanayu is supposed to take over the shop when she grows up, but she really wants to become a sushi chef. Her classmate Hayato is in the opposite predicament. Hanayu decides that if she marries Hayato, her parents will have to let her become a sushi chef. She tries to appeal to Hayato, unaware that he already likes her...

The plot in this manga was enjoyable. There aren't very many cooking manga in the US, so it was unusual. It's interesting and has a good pace. The characters are funny, and they have a cute relationship. Hanayu's in an interesting predicament; she catches Hayato's interest, but now she feels guilty because she's using him. This is one of the few times I've seen a heroine trying to like the hero instead of trying to not like him. I like the artwork in this manga, too. It's pretty, but it's not too sparkly. The manga has a light tone overall, and it doesn't get too dramatic.

The plot and the characters in "Mixed Vegetables" are fun and interesting. I'm looking forward to volume 2.

Mixed Vegetables Vol 1 Ayumi Komura Books Reviews

You know what this manga is a whole new spin for me. I like it. It has sooo many possibilities. I just can't wait to see what happens next with the characters it's soo amazing. If you want a manga that's a lil of the different. Then read this. Especially if you love japanese cuisine! ^_^
I gave it 5 stars because it has great artwork and storyline to it.

I read the whole set which consists of 8 volumes. Each volume gets better and better, keeping you interested all the way to the end.

I admit the title kinda made me think it was going to be all about food but it wasn't, which I was glad. It's mostly about those two and their romance/relationship with little cooking/food talk thrown into it. Don't expect to find recipes.

It's just a fun read, entertaining and the art is nice to look at.
This is one of my very favorite manga series, especially if you like to cook. The story line is sweet and addresses the expectations parents have for their children. The characters are well developed, and the food is yummy. I preferred this series to Kitchen Princess (which is about 4 stars in my book for being overly dramatic). Both young teens and older generation readers will enjoy this.
Mixed Vegetables is a manga about a girl, Hanayu Ashibata, who wants to marry into a sushi chef family to become a sushi chef herself.. So she vowes to marry her classmate, Hayato Hyuga, the son of a sushi chef.

This whole story starts off on a fast note. In volume 1, you already have the 2 characters getting together, and the heroine feeling guilty about the reason they are going out. Which is basically using the guy to achieve her dream. It isn't really fast pace so to say, more like alot happens and it seems as though it skips parts.

The romance is fairly dry. Not deep and barely cute. The guy IS in fact in love with her though but that takes a side-step to cooking. Which leaves the heroine's personality kind of hard to decipher. One scene she's passionate and confident, the next she's confused or full of self-realization.

The art is really likable though. Very clean and nice. The girls look cute and the guys look hot. lol

Despite the number of stars I give this, I'd recommend it really because I have a feeling it will get better. I gave a critical review because I know someone is going to dish about how cute and wonderful it is and give it 5 stars.
