The Goddess Legacy The Goddess Queen / The Lovestruck Goddess / Goddess of the Underworld / God of Thieves / God of Darkness Goddess Test Aimée Carter Books

Today, I just finished The Goddess Legacy by Aimee Carter and let me tell you, it was exactly what I needed. I was really in the mood for something comfortable and familiar and I was contimplating going back and re-reading an old favorite, Clockwork Prince perhaps? But then, I received The Goddess Legacy and I dove right in. If you didn't already know, I'm a huge fan of The Goddess Test series, and while this was a little bit of a different format than the other books in the series. Because of this, I'm going to review each of the five stories as seperate short stories. I think this is the only way to be fair about the book because each story is told from a different view point and they all are very different.

The first story is from Hera/Calliope's point of view. This one is more of a take on actual mythology. It starts just after the Olympian gods defeated the Titans, their father Cronus included. Zeus has made Hera an offer to be his queen, but she is far to in love with Hades to accept. She eventually wears down and accepts Zeus which leads her down a path of unhappiness, betrayal and deceit. I really liked this particular story because Carter really took some creative liberties with Greek myth. She made the trials and tribulations of the gods modern and much more relate-able. This story also gave you a little more background as to why Calliope/Hera is the way she is towards Hades and Kate.

Next, we have a story from Aphrodite/Ava's point of view. This is the story of Aphrodite's love affair with Ares and how her relationship with Hephaestus got started. Burdened by a betrothal that she did not agree with, Aphrodite takes fate in her own hands and runs away with Ares to live the happy life that she's always dreamed of. But this life of bliss with Ares is not what it would seem and she soon finds herself in love with another. I liked the tone of this story the most. From the first few lines of this story, I was sucked into Aphrodite's whimsical story and it brought light to her relationship with Hephaestus, one that most people have trouble understanding.

Hermes/Jame's story was probably my favorite of the five. This story takes the messenger god to the mortal realm on a quest to find out why some of the Olympian gods are fading. He comes to Earth in a time of great war and poverty and acmes in contact with a group of children, living off the land in a forest. He makes his way into this group of rough and tumble orphans and soon finds what it's like to truly love and lose. I've always had a soft spot for Hermes in the other Goddess Test stories and this one made my heart melt. While a little tragic, we get to see Hermes grow up and feel a real loss in his life.

And we come to Persephone's story. This is the story of her betrothal and marriage to Hades. In this story we learn more of Hades's heart break and Persephone's as well. While I won't give too much away in this story as it would spoil some parts of Goddess Interrupted, but I will say that this brings insight to not only Hades relationship with Persephone, but also his attitudes and behavior towards Kate as well. This story made me not like Persephone (even more) and made my heart warm even more for Hades.

Last but definitely not least, we come to Hades/Henry's story. Now I was hoping to get a little bit more on the whole Kate Hades situation, but this was a short, but sweet story of how Hades lost all of the girls and came to have great hope for Kate as his future queen. While I wasn't blown away by this part of the story, it made me smile and all the more excited about the next book to come out.

This review is a little on the long side, but I felt like I really needed to explain each story as it's more of a compilation, rather than one cohesive story. Each short tale jumps from place to place and they are all set in different times through out the world's creation. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story from Carter. I loved the way she made the mythology more believable and I couldn't put this book down. If you're a fan of Aimee Carter or just Greek mythology in general, this is a great read for you.

Remember, Goddess Legacy comes out July 31st!

The Goddess Legacy The Goddess Queen / The Lovestruck Goddess / Goddess of the Underworld / God of Thieves / God of Darkness Goddess Test Aimée Carter Books Reviews

Love this series
I love Greek mythology so I'll pick up almost anything that has a fresh new take on it. I enjoyed goddess legacy. I liked hearing a lot of the characters back story and gaining a rounded understanding of this particular world of greek mythological characters. I think it also helps explain a great deal of the reason the characters behave and commit certain acts in the other books. Really enjoyed it.
This book definitely ties the whole series together With the true meanings of names and some hidden stories overlooked until read. You have to read this book.
I really enjoyed all the stories; some more than others. But I wanted more Kate and Henry, it was really cute when he first saw her that I wanted more of that. Also I wanted it kind of to explain the way he viewed things with Kate.
So I could have done without Hera's story, because I just don't like her anymore. And I'm not a big fan of Persephone, but oh well. But the rest of the stories are wonderful! I love learning more about these characters I've grown so attached to.
I loved this book, as I have loved the entire series! This is an amazing book as it gives so much background information on Callopie, Ava, James, Henry, and Persephone. I found that this book was long, and I loved that! It is like 5 novellas put together! It was awesome to get information about the gods and goddesses from the beginning all the way to present day with Kate. You even get some information on Ingrid, the first girl to go to Eden Manor. This book rocked! This series is awesome!
Why is this shocking? I like to think I am very sparing in giving out five star reviews. A five star review means not only does it have to be written well, it has to be a very entertaining and fun read and it also has to make me feel like the author went over and beyond what I would have expected. Although I love YA books I think I probably give even less five star reviews for them because sometimes they all start to sound too similar to each other.

I liked "The Goddess Test" and "Goddess Interrupted" (And "Goddess Hunt") a lot. "Test" really impressed me but the sequel and following short story didn't live up the first book for me. Still I really wanted to read "Legacy" and I pre-ordered it. I loved this collection of stories. I was hooked from the very first page and it didn't let up until I finished the very last page. I loved the stories being told for the perspectives of the Gods and Goddesses. I loved that each one led into the next tale so they build upon each other so that it feels like reading a full novel and not a bunch of unrelated short stories.

The first story is "The Goddess Queen" is the story of Hera/Calliope and it basically explains how she came to be the way she is. It explains the hate in her heart and her obsession with Henry/Hades. It is a fast paced story that starts things right at the beginning. I really disliked Zeus/Walter after this story. This is a man who cares about no one and nothing besides himself.

"Lovestruck Goddess" follows telling the story of Aphrodite. The story is how she came to be married to one brother and in love with the other. She goes against her parent's wishes for her. She really does seem to have the favors of all the Gods as things pretty much just fall into place for her.

The third story is perhaps the most important in this collection. "Goddess of the Underworld" is the story of Persephone. We got the general backstory in the first two installments of this series but this really fleshes the story out and gives us more of Persephone's viewpoint. I really disliked Diana/Demeter here. I can't believe a mother could see their child so miserable and still allow them to be in such a position. Henry seems like such a wimp in this story though. I felt bad for him but I wish there was something more he could do when he knew the woman was miserable. Now for Persephone. Wow. I do feel bad for her being stuck ruling the Underworld which she despised and married to the king of the Underworld who should couldn't love. However she just doesn't give Henry a chance. Even in their friendship she is hateful to him. I can't understand how she could flinch from him even when he was only acting like a friend. To some degree, despite her situation, she still comes across as a bit of a brat. She is far from my favorite character. Still I think fans of the series need this backstory.

The fourth tale is "God of Thieves" and features James/Hermes as he finds someone he is willing to do anything to protect. This was a great adventure tale and I really enjoyed it although it is very sad as well. The plot of this one could have been fleshed out into a full novel. It had almost a Robin Hood/Peter Pan feel to it.

And the final story is Henry/Hade's. "God of Darkness" tells the story of how events came to be as they are in the beginning of the "Goddess Test". It starts with the first girl Diana brings to save Henry and follows through as more and more deaths lie on Henry's shoulders. Then story ends with an introduction of young Kate.

Again, I just thought this story was phenomenal. It is very different than most of what is on the bookstore shelves. I highly encourage you to purchase this story if you have enjoyed the first two in the series at all.
